Supermodel Hoang Thuy broke down in tears, while MC Lam Vy Da and footballer Bui Tien Dung were deeply moved by the heartbreaking sight of a man raising four young children alone after his wife suddenly passed away just two months ago.
Ho Thi Thuy (born 2016), a featured character in Episode 152 of Vietnamese Family Shelter, is a fourth-grade student at Quynh Xuan B Primary School, Quynh Mai Ward, Nghe An Province. Her story left many viewers heartbroken, as she had just experienced the devastating loss of her mother only two months earlier. Thuy’s mother passed away suddenly at the end of June 2025 due to sepsis while pregnant.

Thuy currently lives with her father, Ho Van Dinh (born 1990), and her three younger siblings: Ho Thi Ngoc Truc (born 2017), Ho Thi Linh Dan (born 2020), and Ho Dinh Van Son (born 2022). The family is classified as near-poor by local authorities.
Before his wife’s passing, Mr. Dinh worked as a construction laborer, while his wife managed the family’s farmland, cultivating three sao of rice fields with two harvests per year, yielding about 200 kilograms of rice per crop – just enough to sustain the household. At that time, Mr. Dinh often worked day and night, sometimes up to 40 workdays per month, earning VND 450,000 per day. However, since his wife’s sudden death, he has had to stay home to care for his four young children and his elderly father, who suffers from stroke-related complications, making it impossible for him to continue working far from home.
Because of the sudden loss of their mother, the children are still too young to cope and often cry for her. Thuy, the eldest daughter, is a bright, quick-witted, and compassionate girl who excels academically. She is an outstanding student in her class and dreams of becoming a teacher one day. Thuy shared that she will try to eat more to grow up quickly so she can help her father earn money to support her siblings. When she is not at school, she helps with picking vegetables, washing dishes, and looking after her younger siblings.
To Thuy, her parents are the most wonderful people in the world. After losing her mother, her only wish is for her father to remain healthy so he can continue to be there for her and her siblings. Whenever they miss their mother, the sisters stand in front of the altar, light incense, and quietly talk to her. The image of a house full of small children, a father rushing to manage everything while caring for his seriously ill elderly parent, deeply moved everyone who witnessed it.

Lam Vy Da expressed deep sorrow over the family’s immense loss, still so fresh and painful. What troubled her most was the image of Ho Van Dinh – a single father forced to shoulder the responsibility of raising four young children alone, with the youngest only three years old. Watching children who were still too innocent to fully understand the pain of losing their mother struck a deep chord in the heart of the mother-of-two MC.
Nine-year-old Thuy burst into tears while talking about her mother during the program. Her words deeply moved Hoang Thuy. Backstage, Hoang Thuy shared that as a native of Thanh Hoa, she felt fortunate and honored to accompany Vietnamese Family Shelter in her home region. Although this was her second time participating in the program, witnessing the children’s profound loss once again brought her to tears.

While holding Thuy’s younger sister in her arms, Hoang Thuy felt the child cling tightly to her, as if searching for maternal warmth. “The baby in my arms hugged me so tightly, and I knew that this was the embrace she desperately needed after losing her mother just two months ago.

Seeing such a young mother pass away, leaving behind four small children, is heartbreaking for anyone. The youngest child still does not fully understand what has happened and continues to smile and run around innocently. That innocence is what truly breaks my heart – not the tears, but the child’s carefree smile,” Hoang Thuy emotionally shared. She quietly wiped away her tears, saying she had to suppress her emotions in order to comfort and give hope to the family.
Footballer Bui Tien Dung was drenched in sweat as he took on the challenges, helping bring meaningful rewards to the children on Vietnamese Family Shelter. Instead of his familiar powerful image on the football field, audiences saw a warm, down-to-earth man in everyday life. Born in 1995, Bui Tien Dung was visibly emotional while listening to the families’ stories. During the challenges, he pushed himself physically to bring joy, hope, and encouragement to children facing adversity but filled with resilience.
At the end of the competition, Ho Thi Thuy’s family placed third and received VND 17 million. Vi Thi Vien’s family came in second with VND 22 million. The first prize went to Luong Thi Le Na’s family, who successfully overcame the special challenge and received a total of VND 55 million. In Episode 152, the total prize money awarded by Hoa Sen Group amounted to VND 94 million.
In addition, singer Duc Phuc, supermodel Hoang Thuy, footballer Bui Tien Dung, along with benefactors and local residents, jointly donated nearly VND 400 million to support the three families, helping them gain strength to overcome their hardships.
